Hue and Cry: Headin' For A Gig

Music legends Hue and Cry are re-building their pop career with the help of The Gate in Scotland. Creative Director Pete Martin has directed a promo for the first single from their new album 'Open Soul'. The band - aka brothers Pat and Greg Kane enjoyed huge success in the late 80s and have been successfully producing jazz albums since the mid-90s. 'Open Soul' marks their first return to 'pop music' in a decade.

The track Headin' For A Fall is a slab of 70's-Stevie-Wonder-style funk shot through with the sort of attitude Stevie was once able to summon up, before the schmaltz and lurid wardrobe got in the way.

The new single, which is getting serious airplay, was written and recorded before the current economic woes. Either this marks Pat out as a very prescient commentator or perhaps the sound, simply drifting out of the studio, became the butterfly's wing that started the media hurricane that¹s largely got us into this mess...

"It's a pleasure to work with such talented artists," says Pete. "Last year, Pat and Greg recorded a ballad for a film I made which shows the diversity and quality of their songwriting. They have an amazing back catalogue but refuse to join the 80s nostalgia bandwagon. They want to keep producing new work, that's relevant for today, and they like to do things differently. And, at The Gate, so do we."

The band are gigging in London, Birmingham, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Belfast and Dublin in the new year - playing a mix of material from the new album Open Soul, classics from their back catalogue (Labour of Love, Looking for Linda,
Violently) and a couple of covers including Beyonce's Crazy in Love!
